It is with much sadness that the family of Frank J Favata Sr. announce his passing on May 18, 2023 at Muhlenburg Hospital in Bethlehem, PA. He was 79 years old. An avid golfer his entire adult life, he first competed on a golf team in the Bethlehem Steel League in 1965, the first year of his 27-year career with Bethlehem Steel Corporation of Bethlehem, PA. He went on to golf in many leagues, particularly in his senior years. He fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to Scotland, where he golfed rounds at the infamous St. Andrew's golf course, the home of golf. In addition to golf, Frank enjoyed playing and watching various other sports, and had a special affection for outdoor activities including camping, boating, and fishing. He had a passion for music and enjoyed playing the drums.
Frank grew from meager years in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and moved to Lehighton, PA at the age of 8 with his parents and his younger sister Carole. He graduated from Lehighton High School in 1961 and soon entered the United States Air Force. He married Alice (Noll) in 1966 and they moved to Bethlehem, PA. He worked hard to establish a home, swinging sledge hammers and loading trucks, at times carrying multiple jobs, while always managing his earnings carefully. His strong work ethic drove him through decades at Bethlehem Steel where he primarily worked as a credit analyst. After Bethlehem Steel, he established a private business in home remodeling and construction, a self-taught trade that he had mastered through decades of work on his own projects. Through his business, he successfully served many clients across the Lehigh Valley Area for several years. He later joined The Home Depot in Bethlehem as a kitchen design specialist. He finished his formal working career with McTish, Kunkel & Associates of Allentown, through which he proudly served as a contractor for PennDOT as an Inspector on countless road construction projects, from small roads to major highways, across the Lehigh Valley and the surrounding region. During retirement, he volunteered at the Lehigh University Golf Driving Range in Bethlehem.
He was an extremely proud father of two children, Julie, born in 1968, and Frank Jr., born in 1970. He resided at his home on Sixth Avenue in Bethlehem, PA from 1967 until his recent stay in the hospital.
Frank was a member of Ss Simon and Jude R.C. Church in Bethlehem. He was proud of his 31 years of sobriety. He would eagerly lend a hand to anyone who needed support. He sponsored St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He loves God and the U.S.A. He has been, and will always be, a patriot.
Frank is survived by his former wife of 31 years, Alice (of Macungie, PA), by his daughter, Julie Favata Stauffer (of Northampton, PA), by his first-born Grandchild, Lauren Stauffer (a Senior student in Elementary and Special Education at West Chester University), by Lauren's Dad, Jim Stauffer (of Marietta, PA), by Frank's son, Frank Favata, Jr. (of Breinigsville, PA) along with Frank Jr.'s wife, Christine, and their 3 children (all of Breinigsville, PA), Eli (11 years old), Lillian (9 years old), and Madison (8 years old).
May He REST IN PEACE, Beloved by All.
