Obituary for Gerald Leonard Smith

Gerald L. Smith, 81, of Bethlehem, residing at Westminster Village in Allentown, passed away on February 12, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Arlene (Czipoth) Smith, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Catasauqua, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Irene (Miller) Smith. He served in the US Marine Corp and later attended Real Estate School through Penn State. He was a Real Estate Manager for Conrail and later Norfolk Southern for over 35 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of Bethany UCC Church, where he was an usher for many years and also volunteered for 30 years in the sports office at Rauch Fieldhouse at Lehigh University. He enjoyed annual fishing trips in Canada as well as hunting, golfing, going to the casino and eating PA Dutch cooking.

Survivors: In addition to his wife, Arlene, he is survived by his daughters, Debra Smith and Suzanne Smith, several nieces and nephews and his buddies, Sadie, Brandy and Bear. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Harold Smith and a sister, Ruth Varga.

Services: Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday, Feb. 20th from 10-11:00 A.M. in the JAMES FUNERAL HOME, 527 Center St. Bethlehem. Due to COVID-19 limitations, the Service will be private for family, however it will be live-streamed. More info at www.jamesfuneralhome.org. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Mem. Park.
