The Day We Met

The day we met was a conspiracy by our mutual friends Andy & Rikert. They had told me they had a coworker of theirs I should meet as Id been single for a time. I remember telling them No thanks, if hes anything like you two dont do me any favors. Im glad they didnt listen. The following Friday they brought you to the bar my friends & I gathered at for food & a drink after work. I was waiting for my food at the bar wearing my motorcycle jacket & reading a magazine about tattoos of all things. It was a crisp fall day. You were standing next to the poker machine when Andy called my name and said,Hey Sam, I want you to meet Jeff. I turned around and there you were. I first noticed your green eyes & that brilliant smile that drew people in. You reached out your hand to shake mine. I remember thinking how tiny my hand seemed in yours even though I was nearly as tall as you. Your eyes widened the first time you saw me. Later you would tell me how different I was. Blonde, tall, with big brown eyes. My hair was pulled back in a ponytail and you thought my ears looked like little seashells. I was wearing my leather & that was cool you said. You felt I had a confidence in myself that was rare and you were drawn to. You asked if you could sit with me & eat. Yes., I said while really thinking YES! But then I remembered my rule that Id never date a guy I met in a bar and stayed reserved. We began talking about ourselves getting acquainted and were surprised to find we both had an interest in archaeology. I was a fossil gal and you were a paleo man kinda guy. After we ate you told me you knew the farmer, Clarence, who owned the field across the street and would I like to go see if we could find some arrowheads. I thought that would be a new & fun thing to do so we walked over. You told me what to look for. Stones with sharp edges or flaked which looked to have been shaped by man & not the weather. We walked 10-15 feet into that field and you stepped right past it. In fact your foot almost stepped on it. I picked up a Stone about 4-5 inches long. Thick on one side and flaked on the other to a semi sharp edge. You mean something like this? I asked you. You took it and looked at it and a huge smile spread on your face that I thought was the best smile Id ever seen on anyone. You nodded and shouted Yeah! Its a stone knife! You handed it back and looked me in the eye with a grin and those light green eyes and said,I think Im in love. Well I thought to myself that rules were made to be broken sometimes and I needed to get to know this beautiful man with an easy smile and an open personality. Andy & Rikert knew wed hit it off. After a year together we took them & their wives out to dinner to thank them.
