I am beyond devastated. There will never be another Stacy Swartz Thomas, and I’m sure I will never quite get over losing her.
I met Stacy on Catster.
The day she accepted my friend request I couldn’t have been more pleased if I had just found out that I had won the lottery. Here was this funny, brilliant, eccentric, fearless and caring person, and she accepted MY friend request! We went from playfully sparring our cats against each other in their diaries to emailing, and finally to phoning each other.
We didn’t phone often because we could happily fritter away 2 to 3 hours without realizing it. Stacy was a kindred spirit and one of the most giving, caring people I will ever meet. She was with me through thick and thin, through the various catastrophic illnesses of my cats, and later helping me through the aftermaths of their deaths. She’s the friend who helped name my Cassie (Cassandra…. and apologized afterwards when it turned out that the name was proving to be apt). I can’t (and never will be able to) say enough nice things about her. We ended every phone call saying “I love you”, and meaning it.
To quote one of Stacy’s Facebook posts, and backatcha, my dear friend: “Thank YOU ! - Just ‘Thank You’ that we are living in the same time space, that our paths have ever crossed. That you are amazing, and such a source of inspiration and you're the living reminder that there are such beautiful hearts, compassionate, curious, intelligent minds in this world.”
Fly free, Stacy Swartz Thomas. Chris Thomas and family, know you are not alone.
