Obituary for William A. Palmer

William Atkinson Palmer Born October 1, 1927, Nyack NY. deceased August 19, 2021, Bethlehem, PA
Married to Mary Elizabeth Palmer, nee Waldron. (Born August 13, 1933, deceased July 9, 2021)
Dad had many life-long interests, sports — especially hockey, gardening, watercolor painting, but none were ever more important than his love of family. He was always there with a kind word, sage advice and at times great hugs where you felt as if you might burst if he squeezed any tighter. He was a religious man who taught we five children to do unto others as you would have others do unto you; religion was really that simple for him. Always non-judgmental, he helped us all to see the other side of any argument.

Dad worked his whole career in the chemical industry, after obtaining an economics degree from Lafayette College. First with Noville, then Pollack’s Frutal Works, Hercules Chemical and finally Haarman & Reimer. He was a part of the ‘time-release’ (Encap) revolution of the ‘60s which today has given us encapsulated fragrance and medicine.

After family and work, came watercolor painting. His many landscapes and favorite covered bridges and old barns were in many juried shows winning several prizes. Many of Dad’s paintings hang in unknown places but you can trust his work is well represented in our own family’s homes.

Losing both our parents in two months has been devastating to our family. But we all agree that Dad wouldn’t have wanted to live on without his beloved Mary Beth. He worshiped the ground our Mom walked on. We pray they are together and happy, more comfortable than they both were in life at the end.

Dad is survived by:
Children: Jeffrey and Carol Palmer, David Palmer and Mike Chinn, Craig and Rita Palmer, Carole and Paul Mesko, Scott and Marie Palmer.
Grandchildren: Kevin and Jillian; Kristen and Brian; Luke, Alison; Kyle, Mathew; Betsy, Margaret.

Brother, John Palmer (100 years young), Sister-in-Law, Fern (deceased).
Nieces and Nephews: Nancy (deceased), Sally and Dennis Bechara, John David and Douglas Palmer.
Great nieces: Tamara and Alexandra and their respective families.

Private graveside service to be held by the family at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack NY later this fall.
