Anna Mae Sandor, age 94, passed away on February 13th, 2023. She held on to life as long as she could with tenacity and humor. She was living with her devoted daughter Ellen and surrounded by family.
>
> Anna Mae was born on May 24th, 1928 to Joseph and Helen Barton. She was born at home in Harlem before the Bartons moved to the Inwood section of New York City. She was a middle child whose life surpassed that of her brothers Mickey and Jackie.
>
> She met the love of her life when she was thirteen years old and married him in 1953. She was married to her "buddy" and best friend George Joseph Sandor until his death in 2010.
>
> She moved with her husband to Bergen County, New Jersey where she raised four children and worked as a waitress while her husband worked for the MTA. She and her husband instilled a strong work ethic upon their children as well as an appreciation of family.
>
> Anna Mae had a sharp and witty tongue and could make everyone around her laugh. Her phrases could also be salty when the occasion called for it, even while maintaining a sweet tooth for desserts. Towards the end of her life, when she could not see or hear very well, she took to singing classics like "K K K Katy" with whoever was around to join her.
