Anthony Paul Amaro, 79, of Allentown, was called home by The Lord on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 in Bethlehem. He was the beloved husband of Gail Ann (Thorsen) Amaro with whom he shared 27 years of marriage. Born in Newark NJ, he was son of the late Anthony and Josephine (Picini) Amaro. After high school, he served in the Army National Guard and then attended Kings College, graduating in 1972 with a business degree. Anthony soon went on to receive his MBA from Suffolk University, graduating in 1980. Anthony, or Tony as he was known to many, always said his greatest joy in life was his family. Spending quality time together was always a priority. Whether over the holidays, dinners or the impromptu lunch, he was always game.
As avid cyclists and world travelers, Tony and Gail spent many hours together on two wheels. Enjoying the backdrops of the Tour de France, California Wine Country or the quiet country roads of Tennessee, cycling was their passion and hobby together. When their grandchildren arrived, Grandpa Tony and Grandma Gail spent as much time as they could passing down their love of life through bike rides, fun games or simply baking a cake.
A friend and acquaintance to many, Tony was known for his ability to easily hold a conversation and make friends with anyone. Warm and caring, no one was a stranger for long. He was passionate about people and providing advice, supporting anyone looking to be their 'best selves' in life.
As a Christian, faith in God was always important to Tony. Participating in the 'Men's Ministry' at his church was a particular highlight and a source of encouragement and joy in his later years. He was a past member of First Presbyterian Church of Allentown.
Anthony's successful career in business spanned over 40 years. Most notably working at Sylvania Lighting Services as Vice President and General Manager for 23 years, followed by various Executive positions at Motorola, Magnetek and EPSI before retiring in 2011. Tony was always proud of the lifelong friendships he maintained over the years with many of his former colleagues.
Upon retirement in 2011, Tony enjoyed having much more time with his family while also being able to volunteer. In particular, the time and effort he devoted to The Lehigh Valley Center For Independent Living (LVCIL) brought him great fulfillment.
In addition to his wife, Gail, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey Amaro (Karen) of Londonderry NH; daughter, Christine Amaro of Phoenix AZ; and three grandchildren, Anthony Amaro, Ava Amaro and Leah Walicki. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and extended family. Anthony is predeceased by his parents Anthony (1995), Josephine (2011) and sister Rosemarie Hopkins (2022).
Anthony will be remembered for his infectious laugh, zest for life, love of family and deeply caring heart. He was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, colleague and friend. He will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives he has touched.
