Eleanor Mele, 76, of Bethlehem, entered eternal life on Thursday August 18, 2016 while being cared for in Holy Family Manor, Bethlehem. She was the beloved wife of Sam Mele. Together they shared 54 years of Marriage. Born in Bakerton, Cambria County, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Lockmonic) Romnosky, and stepdaughter of the late Victor Couturiaux. She was a graduate of the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing and worked for over 25 years at Lehigh Valley Hospital's Psychiatric Unit where she was honored at her retirement for her dedicated service. Eleanor was politically active and in 1984 ran for State Representative. During that time she had the honor of eating lunch at the Whitehouse, meeting President Reagan and the soon to be President George H. W. Bush. She was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem R. C. Church.
Survivors: In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Chris Mele and his wife, Amanda of Bethesda, MD; Tammy Slaten and her husband, Richard of Kennesaw, GA; Sam M. Mele, Jr. of Bethlehem; sisters, Connie Puryear of Clinton, MD; Mary Pilot of Catonsville, MD; brothers, John Romnosky of Hyattsville, MD; Frank Couturiaux and his wife Donna of Melbourne, FL; 3 grandchildren, Lindsey, and Katie Slaten and Vincent Mele. She was preceded in death by brothers, Mike Romnosky, Bill Romnosky and George Romnosky,
Services: Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, September 9th, from 6-8:00 P.M. in the JAMES FUNERAL HOME, 527 Center St. Bethlehem and on Saturday, September 10th, from 10-10:30 A.M. in Notre Dame of Bethlehem R. C. Church, 1861 Catasauqua Rd.Bethlehem, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Condolences may be left for the family at www.jamesfuneralhome.org.
