James John Holzinger died peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Liza Aristoff Holzinger. He leaves behind the pride and love he held for his son James Holzinger, his daughters Rebekah Holzinger (husband Richard Winslow), and Jessica Holzinger, and his grandchildren Alexis and Brandon Holzinger. He is also survived by his sisters Geraldine Holzinger and Jean Somers. He is predeceased by his parents Anna and Joseph Holzinger, his sisters Mary Ann Fletcher and Theresa Diehl, and his brother Raphael Holzinger.
Jim was a 1972 graduate of Liberty High School and graduated from Moravian College in 1976. Jim earned his Juris Doctor with honors from Delaware Law School of Widener University where he was the managing editor of the Law Review. He was admitted to both the Delaware Bar and the Pennsylvania Bar in 1984. Jim clerked for the Honorable Justice John J. McNeilly of the Supreme Court of Delaware before returning to Bethlehem to practice law. He was senior partner at Holzinger, Harak & Scomillio. Additionally, Jim enjoyed teaching Business Law for 35 years at Muhlenberg College. He also served as vice-president and later president of the First Windish Fraternal Benefit Society of America. Until it closed in 2010, Jim served on the Board of Directors for the Allentown State Hospital. Jim served as a vice-president of the Greater Bethlehem Soccer League during the 1980s.
Jim was happiest sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, boating in and around the Delaware Bay and on Florida's Gulf coast, and fishing anywhere. His strong work ethic, wise counsel, compassion, generosity, humor, patience, and entertaining stories will be missed by his family, friends, and clients.
Services: All are invited to his visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a service at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 1 at JAMES FUNERAL HOME, 527 Center St., Bethlehem, PA 18018.
