Obituary

Jerry Lenhart - a friend, brother, cousin, mentor, and father – joined his mother, father, and sister again January 17, 2023 after a tough fight with cancer. Jerry was very active in local clubs and was a life member at the Eagles, Mercantile, Mountainville fire company and Fearless fire company. He was also a member at Macungie veterans of foreign war, and catholic war vets. These memberships built many friendships.
Everyone that knew Jerry, either lifelong or short term, quickly realized what a unique man Jerry was. As a south side elder in Allentown, many were drawn to his quick sense of humor, love of music, love of fishing, teaching and playing pool, generosity with his time, and if anyone needed a little cash or just a friend to have a drink with and talk. Those of us that had the pleasure and honor of knowing him all our lives know that these character traits that he showed to everyone were uniquely him but we created across a very complicated and challenging life he led. As part of the Lenhart and Box family growing up, Jerry really was a unique combination of the good in both families. His Dad was very tough on him but Jerry responded by being master electrician that could out work most, beyond what his dad could have ever asked. His mom, Patricia, also challenged Jerry with life structure and work until you bleed, but love with all your heart. Jerry mastered that as well. His sister, Jeannie, can only be described as an angel when she was on this earth. She was giving to a fault, loved unconditionally – Jerry mastered those traits as well. His younger brother, Jason, a successful businessman, PGA golf Professional, and collegian athlete brags about his brother Jerry athleticism and even let him win once or twice on the links. If anyone had seen Jerry compete in diving competitions – really understands that Jerry was a talented athlete as his brother is. On the Box side, Jerry learned a lot from his Uncle Rich who Jerry treated as a second father. He mastered Rich's honesty, hard work, and ability to take challenges with a smile and a positive attitude to just keep going. All of the Box kids, knew Jerry as a big brother and mentor. They loved his unique talent to play any music, even though he never could read music. He gave years of his life to help the Box family resettle in Virginia and survive when tragedy struck. He loved and cared for all of the kids. All the boys wanted to have his looks, his talent, and way with the ladies. Cathy (Crabby Cathy) adored him and loved when he wrote songs for her. Until his last days, before just saying a simple goodbye, he cared and worried over each member of his family and friends, mourned the tragic death of his son Shawn, and continued to ask is there anything anyone needs. He found a place in many people's hearts as not many people could. Scott Rosati Paula Kingsley, Butch Sukanick, and Linda Box made him their family and they loved him as demonstrated by their ability to keep him in their thoughts and actions 24 hours a day when he needed them most.
Jerry mastered all his wonderful traits from those around him, then made himself into something better. Uniquely Jerald Lenhart.
