Obituary

John (Jack) Leo Timmerman, Jr., 91, of Hanover Twp., Pennsylvania, formerly of Edison Township, passed away on July 21, 2023, in Lehigh Valley Hospital – Muhlenberg, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Martha (Scharloo) Timmerman with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage before her passing on the same day 20 years earlier, July 21, 2003.Born in Jersey City, he was a son of the late John L. Sr. and Josephine (Peters) Timmerman. As a child, he sang professionally on several New York Radio Programs. After receiving his High School Diploma, he served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a 1963 graduate of Seton Hall University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration.Jack and Martha settled in Edison with their three sons. In Edison, Jack was very active in local politics, Midtown Little League and other civil organizations. He became an active member of the American Legion T. Nulty Post 471 in Iselin for many years and served as Post Commander in the early 1970's. Jack regularly led the Post in singing "God Bless America" and other patriotic songs during parades and other events throughout the State. He continued to sing at weddings and other family and social events for the remainder of his life.He and his wife "Matty" moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where they were involved in several social and civic organizations. Upon his retirement from AT&T, Jack began working with local youths in the Junior Achievement Program. Jack remained active in many social organizations for the rest of his life. An avid golfer and billiards player, Jack was passionate about life and had a positive impact on countless people. He was one of a kind and will be truly missed.Jack was predeceased by his loving wife Martha (nee Scharloo) and a sister, Joan Pfeil. He is survived by his three sons, John III and his wife Judy, Martin, and Thomas and his wife Sue; a sister, June Sherry (nee Timmerman), four grandchildren, Jason and his wife Dana, Steven, Jaclyn, and John, and many nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances.Services:  A celebration of life will be scheduled for family and friends in the near future.  Arrangements entrusted to JAMES FUNERAL HOME, Bethlehem.
