Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Philip (Phil) Leo Maloney, age 92, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who never met a stranger and whose love for his family knew no bounds.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Phil and his family lived in Jenkintown, PA, where he was the youngest of seven siblings. After attending Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, he joined the US Army as an SP-3 (or Specialist Class 3) stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC. After serving for two years during which time he received a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal, he was given an honorable discharge.

Phil's life took a beautiful turn when in 1958 he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Fingar, while vacationing in Bermuda and they married shortly thereafter. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joys of family.

A dedicated professional, Phil spent his early career at Weyerhaeuser, where his strong work ethic and spirited demeanor made him a respected colleague. Later in his career, he was the General Manager for Container Corporation and Plant Manager for Simpson Industries, from which he retired. However, it was his family that he was most proud of. Phil's face would light up with pride whenever he spoke about his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments – a trait that endeared him to many and sometimes led to good-natured teasing about his tendency to "brag."

Phil's outgoing nature was evident in his daily life. He had an extraordinary ability to strike up conversations with anyone he met, turning strangers into friends in a matter of moments. His love for dogs was legendary – a walk in the park with Phil could turn into an impromptu social gathering as he stopped to greet every furry friend and their owner along the way.

Life presented Phil with its share of challenges. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol, who passed in 2015, and two sons: Kirk, who passed in 1961, and Keith, in 2011. In light of his enduring love for Carol, after her passing, Phil continued to sign cards and letters to family as, "With love, Mom/Carol/Nana & Dad/Phil/Grandpa."

Survivors: Phil is survived by his children: Jay Philip Maloney and his wife Kelly (Dahl) Maloney, and Mark Allen Maloney and his wife Cathy (Ribar) Maloney. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Maddie Maloney and her husband Jan, Matthew Maloney, and Chris Juby and his wife Joana (Kelly). Phil was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his later years.

As the last of his siblings to pass, Phil's departure marks the end of an era for the Maloney family. Yet, the stories of his love for dogs and his ability to find friends everywhere will continue to inspire and warm the hearts of all who knew him.

Philip Leo Maloney lived a life full of love, laughter, and connection. His memory will forever be a blessing to his family and the countless lives he touched with his warmth and friendliness. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Carol, Kirk, and Keith.
