Obituary

Richard "Richie" Amey, 72, of Bethlehem, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born on February 2, 1953, in Springfield Township, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas Eugene and Lillian Irene (Miller) Amey. A proud graduate of Freedom High School, Class of 1971, Richie spent his life working hard, loving deeply, and lending a hand to anyone in need. Richie was the devoted fiancé of the late Valerie Smith, the love of his life. Though her passing in 2000 left a void, he never remarried, remaining loyal to her memory. Now, they are reunited once more.

A talented mechanic and small business owner, Richie ran his own auto garage for many years before retiring. True to his nature, retirement didn't slow him down—he continued to share his knowledge and passion for cars while working at Auto Zone and Advance Auto. Outside of work, Richie enjoyed woodworking and keeping busy with projects that reflected his creativity and hands-on skills. He could build a room, he could build and fix almost anything from cars to cabinets, clocks, roofing. He was always busy helping others with projects not just to keep busy, but also to spend quality time with his family. A true jack of all trades.

Known for his kind heart, quiet strength, and generous spirit, Richie was a man who always put others first. Family meant everything to him, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and dedication.

Survivors: Richie is survived by his siblings, Linda Amey, and Robert Amey; his stepchildren whom he raised as his own, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Burget and Christopher Smith; grandchildren Veronika Yerke, Monika Yerke, Erika Yerke, Andy Smith, Christopher Smith, Jr., Tyler Smith, Sydney Burget, and Mason Burget; great-granddaughter Mia Schell; nieces Carol Ann Heard and Gail Marie Heard-Hanby; great-nieces Sherry Ann Monk and Ashley Nicole Heard; great-great nieces Jessica Lynn Hanby Lauchnor and Tiffany Marie Hanby; great-great-great niece Leighlyn Heard; and great-great-great nephews Miles Heard, Abel Heard, Elijah Heard, and Junior Monk. He is also remembered fondly by many wonderful friends.

Richie's gentle soul and giving heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
