Obituary

Thomas George Hickey, 98, of Center Valley, formerly of Bethlehem, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 28, 2024. Tom was born in "the Marvine" section of Scranton to Mary (Sullivan) Hickey. Following his mother's death at the age of four he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Alice (Dempsey) and Charles Jacquinot in their blended family. Tom joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, serving in amphibious campaigns in the South Pacific, notably in Guadalcanal, Bougainville, and Milne Bay. After the war, Tom took advantage of provisions in the GI Bill and graduated from the University of Scranton with a degree in accounting in 1950, the first in his family to graduate from college. He was employed as an IRS agent and served as a group manager of IRS offices in Allentown and Bethlehem for many years before his retirement. Tom was married to Jane Anne (Rowan) Hickey for 69 years, who survives him. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Joseph and his wife Anne (Walker) Hickey, by his mother Mary, his Aunt Alice, Uncle Charlie, and siblings Joseph Hickey, Alice Babinec, Carl Sullivan, Gerard Jacquinot, cousins/adopted siblings Jean McHugh, Anne Jacquinot, and Evelyn Quell.

Survivors: Along with his wife, he is survived by daughter Kerry and son-in-law James ("Rick") Cheever, son James and daughter-in-law Carla Hickey, sister-in-law Mary Ann Jacquinot, his grandchildren Brian and wife Lucia Hickey, Kevin Hickey and wife Noelle Wilkinson, Mary Kate and husband Michael Fazio, Lauren and husband Mike Sweeney, Kara Cheever and husband Fuery Hocking, Liam Hickey, Seamus Hickey, and Rowan Hickey. Tom is also survived by great-grandchildren Emma and Thomas Hickey, Evelyn and Lillian Sweeney, and Lorelei and Sabrina Cheever, and by numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Services: Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Thursday morning, Oct. 3rd. from 10:00 to 11:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 AM all at Assumption of the BVM Church, 4101 Old Bethlehem Pike, Bethlehem 18015. Burial-Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
