Loving father and grandfather, William "Polka Bill" Kovatch crossed over at Muhlenberg hospital surrounded by his 4 loving children on June 29, 2016. He is survived by 4 children: Patricia Kovatch, Susie Evans (Kovatch), Kathleen Kovatch, William J. Kovatch, and 1 beloved grandchild: Ana Sofia Leon Kovatch. The youngest of 4 boys, Bill was born in Scranton, PA to parents Alexander Kovatch and Anna (Koval) Kovatch. He took great pride in his Penn State University Alumni status having graduated as an Electrical Engineer in 1968. Most of his adult working life was spent serving the large Allentown company that went through many name changes: Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent and now Agere, retiring in 2001. In retirement he continued to "work" as a DJ for parties and on the radio. His DJ service, "Civilized Sounds", specialized in polka music. Polka music and dancing is one way he embraced and shared his Ukranian heritage. He hosted shows at several local radio stations over the years, most recently a show on Muhlenberg College's WMUH called "Kovatch's Korner". Avid Penn State Football fan, amateur photojournalist, musician, racquetball player, accomplished dancer, these are just a handful of the pursuits he enjoyed. He had a larger than life personality and cared passionately about many things, above all he loved his family.

Services: A viewing will be in the JAMES FUNERAL HOME, 527 Center St. Bethlehem, on Tuesday , July 5th, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 310 Mifflin Ave., Scranton PA, on Wednesday, July 6th, beginning with Panachida 9:00 a.m. followed by the Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
